The main benefit is that you are getting expert, unbiased advice that is not mixed up with product sales. There are many financial professionals who do a bit of financial planning advice with their main revenue source being the sale of insurance and investments. There is nothing wrong with this business model, we just find that it creates a conflict of interest in the quality of the advice the client receives as the financial professional's main goal is selling products.
You can also use a fee only financial planner for a series of questions with an hourly rate, they will do an investment analysis for you and they specialize in retirement planning scenarios.
